Who is involved?

Bedrule Church Future is driven by locals who value the present and potential community use of the space.

Towards the end of 2014, a small group of people from Rule Water and nearby, gathered in their mutual concern for the future of Bedrule Church. The Church of Scotland had announced they would put the church on the market in 2025, and if the public were to have continued use of the space for celebrations, events and gatherings, a case would need to be built for community ownership.

They collated information regarding Church of Scotland’s decision to sell, and spoke with members of the local and international community who have links to the church. They explored the possibility for the church to become a community asset and set the formation of a SCIO in motion. BCF has applied to OSCR to become a SCIO (Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation) for charitable status in order to be able to benefit from Gift Aid and to ensure good governance and regulation of our activities. For the local and broader community to self-determine future use of the church, these first steps are essential.

Alan Bailey, Malcolm McGregor, Roger Curtis and Charlotte Maberly have been working to establish a position from which the community can collectively discuss uses for the church.
