Help save Bedrule Church

We need to raise £35,000 before the middle of July, 2025, in order to secure Bedrule Church for future community use.

Bedrule Church is deeply rooted in Rulewaters’ history, but will soon be sold.

Were it turned into a house, a business, an unsympathetic religious or social venue, or if it were neglected into ruin, the community would lose all agency in who could access it and how it is used. Our grassroots group - Bedrule Church Future (BCF) - believes strongly that the people of Rulewater and those whose families have roots here, should remain in control.

We want to purchase the church to ensure its’ continued use for community events and worship, as a cultural and historical archive, and for weddings, baptisms and funerals.

We are “preferred bidders” until the end of July 2025, when the Church of Scotland will place the building on the open market for sale to the highest bidder.

We must raise £35,000 to secure the building and cover purchase fees, and a further £15,000 to move in and keep it running for the first year.

Bedrule Church Future has applied to OSCR to become a SCIO (Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation) for charitable status in order to be able to benefit from Gift Aid and to ensure good governance and regulation of our activities. This is a lengthy process, and is BCF’s preferred legal entity but if timing requires it, an alternative would be to form as a Community Interest Company (CIC) to submit our bid. This is a quicker process under regulation by Companies House.

At present, we are not taking donations directly through the website, but can provide bank details for BACS transfer, or can accept cheques made out to Bedrule Church Future, to be sent to:
